About Sparrows
History
Sparrows Bros Ltd was established in 1887 by Mr William Sparrow, a tailor who had learnt his trade in Scotland and who had bought his skills to the new colony of New Zealand. Sparrows Bros survived the stresses and strains of 136 years of trading which encompassed wars and depression. During Cip Sparrow’s 46 years of full-time work with the firm, three generations of local people shopped at Sparrows - thus forming a relationship of trust between the firm and its clients over the years. In 2008 Sparrows Bros became Sparrows Retail Ltd, however this did not mean the shop was taken over by new hands. Richard Wilson along with his partner Jolene Laxton brought into the Sparrows business. Richard has been with the Sparrows team for over 40 years and is the heart and soul of the business . To Sparrows, customer loyalty is of the highest importance, and has always been a central belief since first opening. The Sparrow family is grateful for the continued support of their customers, and will continue to provide the community of Ashburton with individual customer service second to none, quality and exciting merchandise with the style that is uniquely that of a familiar and friendly family business.
